On 31 March and 1 April 2010, two events will be held on the Texas A&M University campus to mark an important milestone in the evolution of Texas A&M as a diverse and welcoming institution.
JOIN US as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the United States Supreme Court’s decision to deny an appeal of a ruling that ordered Texas A&M to recognize Gay Student Services as a student organization.
On April 1, 1985, this decision opened the doors for the recognition of LGBT organizations at Texas A&M and at public universities elsewhere. Click here to read the decision.
On 31 March 2010, join us for a scholarly symposium—“Queer of Color Critiques”—that will explore the scholarly and literary endeavors of the LGBT of Color academic community. Primarily organized by faculty in the Texas A&M University Department of English, this symposium has support from a grant made by the Melbern G. Glasscock Center for Humanities Research as well as various funds from other sources.
Then, on the second day, 1 April 2010, join us for a symposium titled “25 Years After: LGBT in Higher Education - The Case of Texas A&M,” which will explore the way in which lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals, interests, and intellectual endeavors have fared, are faring, and will fare in higher education.
